The original Thirteen Colonies were English colonies that stretched from New England to the northern edge of the Floridas.
The English settlements of the original 13 colonies were divided into three geographic areas: the New England colonies, the Middle colonies, and the Southern colonies. Queen Elizabeth wanted to establish the colonies in the Americas to help enlarge the British Empire.
If you are brushing up your US State History, remember that many of the original 13 Colonies were named after the rulers of England.
